Embrace

Beginning with the theme of containment, Maris researched imagery relating to physical containment through protection such as wombs, egg shells and armoured mammals. Leading from this Maris began to photograph people with their arms wrapped around their own bodies as a form of self containment.

These images were abstracted to create a series of fragmented arms comprised of straight lines that were then manipulated using digital means to create extruded 3D open structures. Maris has developed these into ceramic interconnecting slab structures reminiscent of an embrace.
